23 Inmates Escape Mexican Prison During Deadly Cartel Revenge Attacks

Mexican police are searching for escaped prisoners. Twenty-three inmates fled a jail in Puerto Vallarta. The escape happened during violent cartel revenge attacks on Sunday. Puerto Vallarta is a popular beach resort on the Pacific coast. However, violence erupted across the city. Armed men rammed a car into the prison gate. As a result, prisoners escaped during the chaos.

Cartel Revenge

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) launched the attacks. They blockaded roads and torched vehicles across several towns. This violence avenged the death of their leader, “El Mencho.” Security forces killed him during a capture operation.

Deadly Toll

The operation to capture El Mencho turned deadly. More than 70 people lost their lives. This includes 25 National Guard members. The violence that followed added to the grim toll. This Mexico cartel prison escape highlights the group’s power. They continue to challenge authorities even after losing their leader. The search for the escaped inmates continues across the region.
