Sindh Starts Measles Rubella Drive to Protect Millions of Children

Sindh has launched a 13-day Sindh measles rubella campaign to protect millions of children across the province. The initiative began at a special school near Numaish Chowrangi and aims to strengthen routine vaccination. In addition, the drive focuses on preventing outbreaks linked to vaccine-preventable diseases.
Health officials confirmed that more than 8.2 million children will receive the measles-rubella vaccine. They also shared that over 8.4 million children under five will get polio drops during the parallel polio effort. As a result, families can expect wider coverage and easier access to lifesaving care.

UNICEF Highlights the Need for Yearly Vaccination

UNICEF representative Dr Prem Bahadur Chand praised the campaign. He noted that similar efforts succeed worldwide and reduce avoidable illness. According to him, yearly vaccination protects children from preventable disability and mortality. In addition, he stressed that high-quality campaigns help communities stay safe, especially in areas where outbreaks remain a risk.
He encouraged families to trust verified information. Therefore, he advised parents to follow official guidelines and complete their child’s vaccine schedule. His message focused on building confidence in public health services.

Parents Urged to Ensure Full Participation

At the ceremony, Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho urged parents to visit the nearest centre. She asked families to ignore online rumours and rely on health experts for guidance. For example, she reminded caregivers that vaccination teams receive proper training and follow strict protocols.
She added that the government has made extensive preparations for smooth implementation. As a result, workers, volunteers and community leaders will support the campaign throughout the province. The minister also thanked UNICEF, field teams, media personnel and students for their cooperation. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strong and inclusive immunisation for every child.
