Thailand Sets Sights on Global Leadership with Green Tourism Plan 2030

Thailand’s Department of Tourism, under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, has rolled out the “Thailand Green Tourism Plan 2030” under the banner Igniting the Path to Global Green Success. The strategy sets a clear vision: to secure Thailand’s place among the world’s Top 100 sustainable tourism destinations by 2030 while balancing economic growth, environmental care, and social well-being.

At the heart of the plan is the new Thailand Good Travel certification logo, designed to highlight tourism operators and communities that meet recognized sustainability standards. This mark will serve as a guarantee of quality for visitors at home and abroad, while also aligning Thailand with global benchmarks for responsible travel.

The initiative brings together a broad network of partners, including the Department of Tourism, STAC Thailand, Mahidol University International College, the Green Destinations Foundation, and Travelife for Tour Operators, along with more than 49 stakeholders from government, academia, and industry.

Highlighting the significance of this step, Natreeya Taweewong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, said, “Thailand is at a crucial turning point. The Thailand Green Tourism Plan 2030 is not just a policy declaration but a commitment to becoming a tourism destination that grows alongside environmental conservation.”

To expedite progress, Jaturon Phakdeewanit, Director-General of the Department of Tourism, said that a roadshow will be held in October in Chachoengsao, Chiang Rai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Nakhon Ratchasima. The events will help local operators measure their sustainability performance and prepare for international programs like the Top 100 Green Destinations and Good Travel Stories.

The initiative reflects Thailand’s broader vision of tourism as a driver of prosperity that grows in harmony with conservation, ensuring long-term global competitiveness.
