Karachi Street Rehabilitation Plan Moves Forward With Major Urban Upgrade

Karachi street rehabilitation efforts are gaining momentum as KMC pushes for a major urban upgrade. The city plans to restore more than 26 key streets across different towns. The initiative aims to ease traffic congestion and improve mobility for millions of residents
KMC Finalises a Major Urban Improvement Proposal
KMC has prepared a Rs9 billion proposal for the project. It will soon submit it to the provincial government under the Special Karachi Development Grant. The plan focuses on streets managed by Town Municipal Corporations. Officials say the improvements will support smoother traffic flow. They also expect safer roads and better access to essential services.
A high-level meeting took place at the KMC Head Office to review the proposal. Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab chaired the session. Senior officials, including Secretary Local Government Waseem Shamshad and Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, also joined the meeting. Their participation highlights the importance of this citywide effort.
KMC leaders reviewed several development schemes during the discussion. They examined ongoing urban improvement programs and identified areas requiring urgent attention. As a result, the final proposal reflects both short-term needs and long-term planning.

Officials Push for Faster Urban Development

City officials emphasise that Karachi needs rapid upgrades to handle rising traffic. They believe the rehabilitation of major streets will reduce delays for commuters. In addition, the improved network will support economic activity across different neighbourhoods.
The meeting also highlighted the need for coordination between departments. Mayor Wahab urged teams to work quickly and maintain transparency throughout the process. He said the plan aims to create safer, cleaner and more accessible streets for everyone.
KMC now prepares the final documents for submission. Once approved, the project will begin in phases. Therefore, residents can expect visible improvements in road quality and mobility in the coming months.
