Italy Claims Historic Third Consecutive Davis Cup Title with Strong Win Over Spain
Italy made history on Sunday by securing their third consecutive Davis Cup title. The team triumphed 2-0 over Spain in a best-of-three match in Bologna. Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli were the stars, winning their singles matches to seal the victory for Italy.
Berrettini set the tone in the first match. He defeated Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta with a strong 6-3, 6-4 performance. Later, Cobolli overcame a tough challenge from Jaume Munar. After losing the first set 1-6, Cobolli rallied back, winning the next two sets 7-6(5) and 7-5 to secure the second point and the overall victory.
This win marks Italy’s fourth Davis Cup title, following previous triumphs in 1976, 2023, and 2024. Italy’s impressive run also makes them the first nation to win three consecutive Davis Cup titles since the
Challenge Round was abolished in 1971.
Though both teams played without key players—Carlos Alcaraz for Spain and Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti for Italy—the home crowd in Bologna gave Italy the motivation to claim the victory.
