Trump Pushes AI Innovation With New Genesis Mission
Trump AI innovation efforts took a major step forward as President Donald Trump signed a new executive order on Monday. The order launches the Genesis Mission, a government-wide plan to build an integrated artificial intelligence platform. The initiative aims to use huge federal scientific datasets to support next generation technologies.
The White House described the mission as a way to transform scientific research. It will use government data to train scientific foundation models and create AI agents that test ideas, automate tasks, and deliver faster discoveries. Therefore, researchers may soon complete work in hours instead of years.
President Trump said the mission will help automate experiments, speed simulations, and create predictive models across many fields. These fields range from protein folding to fusion plasma studies. As a result, the government expects shorter timelines and wider access to advanced research tools.
National Project
The executive order directs the U.S. Energy Department and National Laboratories to combine America’s top scientific talent, advanced computers, and national datasets. In addition, the DOE will build a closed loop AI platform that connects supercomputers and research data. This system will support robotic labs and generate new foundation models.
Michael Kratsios, who leads the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said the mission will unlock more federal datasets. He believes this shift will greatly increase the pace of scientific breakthroughs. Energy Secretary Chris Wright echoed this view. He noted that while private companies have invested heavily in AI, the government now wants to guide innovation toward scientific discovery and engineering progress.
The order also highlights national, economic, and health security priorities. These include biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear energy, space exploration, quantum science, semiconductors, and microelectronics.
President Trump has long emphasized winning the global AI race, especially against China. Early in his term, he ordered officials to develop an AI Action Plan to position the United States as a global leader. He also rolled back previous AI safety rules to reduce barriers and speed expansion.
Experts see the Genesis Mission as a major shift toward a more coordinated national approach. The focus on data access, research automation, and rapid development may reshape how the country advances scientific innovation.
