Karachi Water Disruption Hits Today During Dhabeji Maintenance

Karachi experiences a Karachi water disruption today as the Dhabeji substation begins annual maintenance. The work runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the long shutdown affects pumping operations across the city. Officials urge residents to store water early and manage usage wisely throughout the day.

Impact on Water Supply

K-Electric teams start the scheduled maintenance at the Dhabeji grid and substation early in the morning. Their work directly affects the pumping station because the shutdown limits power supply. As a result, the plant reduces its output and sends less water to Karachi.
Dhabeji normally pumps around 650 million gallons each day. However, the shutdown lowers supply to nearly 550 million gallons. This drop may cause temporary shortages in several neighborhoods. Landhi, Korangi, and Shah Faisal Colony may face the most stress. Other areas, including Defence, Chanesar Town, Jinnah Town, North Nazimabad, and Gulberg Town, may deal with partial disruptions. These communities should stay alert and adjust their routines.

How Residents Can Prepare

The Water Corporation and K-Electric both advise people to store enough water before the shutdown begins. In addition, they encourage everyone to avoid unnecessary use to help the system cope with reduced flow. Simple steps, such as limiting laundry loads or delaying washing tasks, can support the city today.
The maintenance program aims to protect the grid station and prevent bigger failures later. Although the situation creates short-term inconvenience, it improves long-term safety and reliability. For example, timely repairs limit the risk of sudden outages. Therefore, officials request patience from the community as the teams complete their work.
Staying informed helps people manage their day smoothly. With wise planning, Karachi can face this challenge with ease and cooperation.
