Interior Ministry Dismisses Officers Over Greece Boat Case Failures

The officers dismissed Greece case development has intensified public attention on accountability within Pakistan’s security system. The Interior Ministry took firm action on Monday after reviewing appeals from officers accused of negligence and corruption. As a result, several officials lost their jobs, while others received major penalties for poor performance.

Ministry Removes Officers After Appeals Rejected

According to officials, the Federal Secretary of Interior dismissed 13 officers after confirming serious violations. The removed officers included a Deputy Director and two Assistant Directors posted at Karachi Airport. Authorities also dismissed an Assistant Director at Faisalabad Airport after investigators proved charges linked to the 2023 Greece boat tragedy.
In addition, a Deputy Director at Multan Airport faced demotion in both rank and salary for three years over alleged links with human smugglers. Two senior investigators were also dismissed due to weak investigative performance. The ministry further terminated an Assistant Database Administrator for negligence in their official duties.
The action extended to lower ranks as well. Appeals from six sub-inspectors, one ASI, three head constables and five constables were rejected, which upheld their previous dismissals.

Penalties Reduced for Some But Not All

The ministry also issued salary reductions for four Assistant Directors and one Inspector for one to three years. Officials said the penalties were tied to absenteeism, negligence and weak investigations. At Islamabad Airport, an Assistant Director and an Inspector received formal censure for mishandling a detainee.
Moreover, the Interior Ministry confirmed the dismissal of an LDC for chronic absenteeism. However, it softened penalties for a Superintendent and a Sub-Inspector, reducing their punishment from promotion stoppage to simple censure.
