Sindh Expands Pink Scooter Scheme to Empower Women

The Sindh government has approved the second phase of the pink scooter scheme for women. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the decision on Wednesday. As a result, more women will soon gain access to safe and affordable transport.
He chaired a meeting focused on public transport and mobility. During the session, officials also approved four new routes of the People’s Bus Service. These routes will operate in Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Hyderabad.

Mobility initiative for women

Sharjeel Inam Memon described the pink scooter scheme as a strong step toward women’s empowerment. He said the programme supports women who depend on public transport for education and work. In addition, it promotes independence and dignity in daily travel.
The minister explained that the scheme reduces commuting costs and saves time. It also creates a safer travel option for women across Sindh. Therefore, many students
and working professionals will benefit directly.
Authorities are managing applications through the Sindh Mass Transit Authority. Officials are collecting data from eligible women and students. This process ensures smooth planning and fair distribution.

Merit-based distribution and new bus routes

Memon confirmed that scooter distribution will follow merit and financial need. The government has designed a transparent mechanism to ensure fairness. As a result, deserving applicants will receive priority.
Alongside the scooter programme, the meeting approved four new People’s Bus Service routes. These routes aim to improve connectivity in key districts. Moreover, they will help reduce pressure on existing transport services.
The minister encouraged women to apply and use the facility fully. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusion and equal opportunity. According to him, improved mobility strengthens women’s role in all areas of life.
