PM Approves Halal Export Plan to Expand Pakistan’s Global Meat Market Share
Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has approved a new Halal Export Plan to strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global halal meat market. The decision targets higher exports and better international access. As a result, the government aims to tap into fast-growing global demand.
The prime minister has asked authorities to act quickly. He directed them to submit a detailed three-year action plan within two weeks. Moreover, the plan will include clear steps to increase halal meat exports.
Strong Coordination and Practical Reforms
The federal government will develop the strategy in close coordination with provincial governments. This cooperation aims to improve competitiveness in Muslim-majority and global markets. Therefore, officials will focus on results-driven reforms.
The prime minister emphasized the need to strengthen livestock production systems. He also called for better cold storage facilities and supply chains. In addition, authorities will work on improving other key factors that affect exports.
A dedicated committee will oversee these efforts. For example, it will help align livestock production with international standards. The committee will also promote value addition and support organized processing hubs.
Improving Standards and Market Access
The plan includes modernising slaughterhouses to meet global requirements. The prime minister stressed the importance of upgrading facilities across the country. As a result, exporters can meet strict international health and safety standards.
Authorities will also expand halal certification support. Furthermore, they will pursue bilateral registration agreements with importing countries. These steps aim to unlock new markets and increase export volumes.
Officials say Pakistan’s halal meat sector has strong export potential. Several initiatives already focus on improving capacity and packaging quality. The Halal Export Plan also supports broader export goals.
Notably, the government plans to raise halal meat exports to Malaysia to $200 million in the coming years. Overall, the policy signals a strong push toward sustainable export growth
