Rickshaw Movement Ban: City Enforces New Traffic Curbs on Major Roads
The city administration has enforced a rickshaw movement ban to reduce congestion and improve safety. Authorities blocked three and five-seater rickshaws on 25 busy roads. The restriction will stay active until February 21, 2026. As a result, officials expect smoother traffic flow during peak hours.
The commissioner issued the order under Section 144 of the Cr.P.C. Traffic police now have full authority to act. They will penalise violations under Section 188 of the law. Therefore, officials urge drivers to follow the new rules.
Rickshaw Restrictions on Key Roads
The ban affects major routes that handle heavy daily traffic. These include Shahrah-e-Faisal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, and Korangi Road. In addition, several market and commercial areas fall under the order. Officials believe fewer rickshaws will reduce delays and lower accident risks.
The decision followed strong recommendations from the traffic police chief. He highlighted growing hazards in dense zones. However, emergency and essential services remain unaffected. Authorities will closely monitor compliance throughout the period.
Heavy Vehicle Curbs During Daytime
In addition, the administration banned daytime movement of heavy vehicles. Dumpers carrying construction material can only operate from 10pm to 6am. This step came after a rise in fatal accidents involving trucks and tankers.
Vehicles carrying essential goods received limited exemptions. These include water, medical gases, meat, and edible oil. However, officials restricted heavy traffic on Jinnah Avenue and several other routes. They also defined specific corridors for trucks heading toward ports and industrial areas.
The restrictions will remain until February 22, 2026. Officials say the plan protects lives and keeps roads safer. Overall, the city aims to balance mobility with public safety through these measures.
