Turkey & Oman Launch Visa-Free Travel, Boosting Tourism and Strategic Ties
Turkey and Oman have activated a landmark mutual visa exemption. This agreement officially started on November 1, 2025. It allows ordinary passport holders to travel more freely between the two nations. The move aims to significantly boost tourism and cultural exchange. It also strengthens the deep historical and fraternal bonds between Ankara and Muscat.
Understanding the New Visa-Free Travel Rules
The new rules simplify travel for tourists and family visitors. Turkish citizens can now visit Oman without obtaining a visa beforehand. Their visa-free stay is permitted for up to 30 days per visit. However, the total stay must not exceed 90 days within any 180-day period.
Omani citizens receive a similar, valuable benefit. They can travel to Turkey without a prearranged tourist visa. Their permitted stay is for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. All travelers must remember two critical requirements. First, their passport must be valid for at least six months from the entry date. Second, this waiver covers only tourism and short stays, not business or long-term residence.
A Strategic Diplomatic and Economic Milestone
This visa waiver is far more than a tourist convenience. It represents a key milestone in a broader strategic partnership. The agreement was finalized during a high-level state visit. Consequently, Turkey and Oman signed 16 additional cooperation agreements. These deals span vital sectors like defense, energy, mining, and media.
To ensure tangible results, the two countries established a new institution. The Oman-Turkey Coordination Council will now monitor all agreement implementations. Therefore, the goal is to turn easier travel into real economic growth and investment. This policy is also part of Oman’s wider strategy. The Sultanate is actively easing travel rules with several global partners to foster engagement.
