KP Cheaper Power Plan Targets Industrial Growth and Jobs

KP cheaper power plans took shape on Sunday as Chief Minister Sohail Afridi addressed energy priorities. He said the province will supply affordable electricity through its own power projects. However, he stressed that timely completion remains critical. As a result, industries could gain stability and grow faster.

Hydropower Projects Get Top Priority

The chief minister chaired a meeting of the KP Transmission Line and Grid System Company. He reviewed progress on ongoing hydropower and transmission projects. In addition, he directed officials to meet all deadlines.
Afridi ordered authorities to prioritise every hydropower project. He said faster completion would strengthen the provincial power system. Therefore, the government placed energy projects at the top of its agenda.
Officials briefed the meeting on project updates. They said ongoing schemes would add 800 megawatts to the grid. As a result, KP expects improved energy availability.
The briefing also confirmed the completion of the Daral Khwar Hydropower Project. The project now supplies electricity to the system. In addition, seven other projects with 224 megawatts are already operational

Transmission Expansion and Power Reforms

Afridi also reviewed progress on transmission infrastructure. Officials said workers are laying a 120-kilometre transmission line. This line will connect the Matiltan powerhouse to Chakdarra. Therefore, the province aims to improve power distribution.
The chief minister directed officials to complete the feasibility study for the KP Power Distribution Company. He set a six-month deadline. In addition, he ordered early finalisation of the draft regulatory authority act.
Afridi linked energy reforms to economic stability. He said affordable electricity would boost industrial growth. As a result, businesses could expand and create new jobs.
The Matiltan Hydropower Project remains a key initiative. Located in Gorkin Matiltan, it will generate 84 megawatts. Consequently, the project will strengthen renewable energy capacity across KP.
