ISPR Presser Takeaways: 10 Key Points from DG Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry’s Briefing
The ISPR presser takeaways from Tuesday’s briefing outlined Pakistan’s hardline stance against terrorism. ISPR Director-General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry spoke in Rawalpindi and shared detailed security data. He stressed that Pakistan will defeat terrorism through strength, not appeasement.
The briefing reviewed counter-terror operations from the past year. It also addressed regional security, foreign involvement, and internal political challenges. Moreover, the ISPR chief directly linked governance issues to rising violence.
Security Situation and Regional Threats
Lt Gen Chaudhry called the last year critical in the fight against terrorism. He said security forces conducted over 75,000 intelligence-based operations nationwide. As a result, authorities disrupted several terror networks.
He revealed that 10 major attacks involved Afghan nationals. In addition, he said Afghanistan has become a central hub for terrorist groups. According to him, these groups receive support, funding, and safe havens.
The ISPR chief claimed the Afghan Taliban provide operational space to militants. He also alleged Indian backing for these groups. Furthermore, he said militants now use advanced weapons left behind by US forces.
He added that India’s prime minister has emerged as a “new hero” for the Afghan Taliban. Therefore, regional dynamics remain a major concern for Pakistan’s security.
Political Challenges and Counter-Terror Resolve
Sharing casualty figures, Lt Gen Chaudhry said 1,200 civilians and security personnel embraced martyrdom last year. Meanwhile, forces killed over 2,500 terrorists during operations. These numbers, he said, reflect the scale of the conflict.
He strongly criticized the PTI leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He claimed a political-terror nexus fuels instability in the province. In his view, political resistance weakens counter-terror efforts.
The ISPR DG said PTI resists operations on multiple platforms. He further alleged the party seeks support from Afghanistan. However, he stressed that national security must rise above politics.
