Vietnam Tourism Booms, Pivots to Green Growth for 2026

Powered by a remarkable 21% expansion in 2025, Vietnam’s tourism sector is now accelerating a strategic shift towards sustainable, green development. The industry is focusing on service quality, specialized workforce training, and targeted market promotion to secure growth in 2026 and meet rising global demand for responsible travel.
The strong recovery last year was fueled by significant policy support. The government enhanced visa facilitation with wider exemptions, universal e-visas, and longer stays for international visitors. It also introduced direct support for businesses, including reduced licensing fees, lower electricity tariffs for hotels, and streamlined administrative procedures.

Record Numbers and Ambitious 2026 Targets

The strategic push delivered outstanding results in 2025. Vietnam welcomed approximately 21.2 million international visitors and a massive 135.5 million domestic tourists. Total tourism revenue soared past VND 1 quadrillion (around $38 billion), exceeding pre-pandemic levels for the first time.
Building on this momentum, the sector has set ambitious goals for 2026. The target is to attract 25 million international visitors and generate about VND 1.12 quadrillion (roughly $43 billion) in revenue. This positions tourism as a central pillar of Vietnam’s national economic growth strategy.

A Multi-Pronged Strategy for a Green Transition

To achieve these targets, Vietnam is implementing a comprehensive plan. Promotion is being stepped up through targeted campaigns in Europe, the U.S., and Asia, participation in major global tourism fairs, and stronger digital outreach.
Product development is diversifying into high-potential segments like wellness tourism, rural tourism, golf tourism, and culinary tourism. Underpinning all these efforts is a core commitment to a “green transition,” ensuring that growth is coupled with environmental sustainability and improved service quality to remain competitive on the global stage.
