Pre-Immigration Clearance Deal Agreed Between UAE and Pakistan

Pakistan and the UAE have agreed to sign a pre-immigration clearance agreement for Pakistani travelers. The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting in Islamabad. As a result, passengers will complete immigration formalities before departure.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met a UAE delegation led by Ahmed Bin Lahij Al Falasi. Therefore, both sides moved closer to easing travel hurdles. Officials described the step as practical and passenger-friendly.

New Clearance Procedure for Pakistani Travelers

Under the new arrangement, immigration checks will happen in Pakistan. For example, travelers will no longer face long queues on arrival. Instead, they can exit UAE airports like domestic passengers.
Naqvi confirmed the system will start as a pilot project. The first phase will launch in Karachi. However, officials did not share a start date.
Authorities plan to expand the system after the pilot is succeeds. In addition, Pakistani and Emirati teams will coordinate on technical matters. Both sides called the initiative beneficial.
Minister of State Talal Chaudhry and Interior Secretary Khurram Agha also attended the meeting. Their presence highlighted the importance of the agreement. As a result, coordination is expected to improve.

Visa Challenges and Recent Developments

The agreement comes after visa difficulties faced by Pakistanis. Over the past year, many applicants reported delays and rejections. Therefore, the new system offers timely relief.
In late 2025, officials confirmed reduced visa issuance. Earlier, Naqvi raised these concerns with UAE authorities. As a result, talks continued at multiple levels.
UAE leaders later assured Pakistan of cooperation. In April, the UAE ambassador announced five-year visas for Pakistanis. This move helped restore confidence.
Officials clarified that work visas remain open. Concerns mainly involved misuse of visit visas. However, lawmakers stressed that most travellers follow rules.
Naqvi expressed hope that pre-immigration clearance will improve travel experiences. Ultimately, the step signals stronger cooperation between Pakistan and the UAE.
