Northeast Rail Tragedy Leaves Dozens Dead After Crane Strike

The Northeast rail tragedy has shocked communities across Thailand. A construction crane collapsed onto a moving passenger service. As a result, dozens of families are now grieving. Officials confirmed at least 32 people lost their lives. Another 66 people suffered injuries of varying severity. Authorities say the incident happened around 09:00 local time.
The crane struck the vehicles with force and caused a derailment. Several carriages crumpled instantly. One section later caught fire, adding to the chaos.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene within minutes. They pulled survivors from damaged compartments. However, rescue efforts proved difficult due to wreckage.

Passengers and Emergency Response

Authorities said 171 passengers were onboard during the crash. Among the injured were a one-year-old child and an 85-year-old adult. Seven people remain in critical condition.
Medical teams transported victims to nearby hospitals. Therefore, local facilities moved into emergency mode. Doctors worked through the morning to stabilise patients.
Witnesses described scenes of panic and confusion. For example, some passengers tried to break windows to escape. Others helped strangers despite their own injuries.

Investigation and Company Response

The State Railway of Thailand has opened a full investigation. In addition, officials confirmed legal action against the construction firm involved. They want accountability and answers.
Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited issued a public statement. The firm expressed deep regret over the Northeast rail tragedy. It also pledged compensation and relief.Government officials stressed safety reforms. As a result, inspections may increase nationwide. Authorities aim to prevent similar disasters.
This Northeast rail tragedy has raised serious concerns. Many citizens now question construction safety near transport routes. The nation waits for findings that may bring closure.
