Major Karachi Mall Fire Kills Six, Rescue Efforts Continue

A devastating fire broke out at Karachi’s Gul Plaza shopping mall late Saturday. Tragically, it killed at least six people, including a firefighter. Officials also reported twenty injuries from the incident. Rescue teams confirmed that heavy smoke inside the building caused the deaths. They moved the injured to Civil Hospital, with several in critical condition. Firefighters are still working hard to control the massive blaze.

Rescue Teams Face Extreme Danger

The Chief Fire Officer declared the blaze a third-degree fire. Therefore, authorities called for fire trucks from across the entire city. All shops on the ground floor were completely engulfed. However, the fire spread upwards to the third floor. The building’s structure has now become dangerously weak. As a result, rescue workers cannot safely enter. They are using snorkel ladders to reach people still trapped inside. Sadly, the fire kept flaring up despite hours of effort.

Leaders Order Action and Investigations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. He directed all departments to work together on the rescue. Furthermore, he instructed officials to provide all possible help to affected families. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered an immediate inquiry. He also demanded strict fire safety checks for other commercial buildings. In addition, the Water Board provided an emergency supply to the site. Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that cooling operations are the current priority. The government promises a full investigation to prevent future tragedies.
