The Crash and Response
A Madrid-bound train derailed near the town of Adamuz. It then crossed onto the opposite tracks. As a result, it smashed into an oncoming train.
Both trains carried 400 passengers and staff. Emergency services quickly treated 122 injured people.
In addition, 43 people remain hospitalized. This number includes four children. Importantly, 12 adults and one child need intensive care.

Spanish Transport Minister Óscar Puente addressed the nation. He warned that the death toll could still rise. Therefore, officials have launched a full investigation.
