Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation Launches Summer 2026

Game Freak, the legendary studio behind Pokémon, has announced the release window for its ambitious new action RPG. Beast of Reincarnation release is set for Summer 2026 on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and day one on Game Pass. This title represents the developer’s first major non-Pokémon project in years. The game features a symbiotic duo, Emma and her wolf companion Koo, battling through a blight-ridden world. This reveal came during the recent Xbox Developer Direct alongside substantial new gameplay footage.

A New Take on Creature Companionship

The game explores the bond between human and animal, a core theme from Pokémon, but with a darker, more action-oriented twist. Players control both Emma and Koo, issuing commands to the wolf or using Emma’s special “Blooming Arts” abilities. Combat is a pseudo-soulslike experience against mutated plant creatures called Malefacts.
Separate skill trees for Emma and Koo allow for deep customization of playstyles. You can focus on stealth, direct aggression, or supportive synergy between the characters. This system provides significant flexibility in how players approach the harsh world.

A Bold Step Beyond Pokémon

Developers describe the project as a journey through a harsh world alongside a partner. The protagonist, Emma, can absorb the destructive “blight” from enemies, granting her unique plant-based powers for traversal and combat. This core mechanic ties directly into both the narrative and the gameplay loop.
For Game Freak, this is a clear effort to demonstrate its versatility beyond its flagship franchise. The Summer 2026 release gives players a clear timeline for this highly anticipated and distinct new adventure from a beloved studio.
