Pakistan Expands Telemedicine Network to Strengthen Primary Healthcare
Pakistan is expanding its digital healthcare network. Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal inaugurated the fifth Telemedicine Center in Islamabad. This center is located at the Basic Health Unit (BHU) in Bhukkar.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare. He stated this is part of a rapid effort to fulfill public promises. The initiative addresses the growing patient burden on hospitals.
A Modern Solution for National Healthcare
Minister Kamal highlighted the critical role of technology. Telemedicine is the most effective solution for a sustainable healthcare system. It optimally uses modern tech to reach everyone.
This system delivers quality care beyond urban centers. It ensures remote and rural areas get the same standard of consultation as major cities. In today’s digital age, a doctor’s physical presence is not always essential.
Details of the Telemedicine Expansion
The government has allocated significant resources for this digital shift. A pool of 5,000 doctors will provide online consultations nationwide. Their services will be available daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
This model also creates new professional opportunities. It allows female doctors who paused their careers to reintegrate into the system. Consequently, it strengthens national healthcare coverage from home.
The Bhukkar facility itself will see upgrades. It is planned to be phased from a primary to a secondary healthcare center. This will further improve local access and service quality.
A Holistic Approach to Health
The vision extends beyond just treatment. These centers will also focus on health awareness and disease prevention. Trained staff will be present to facilitate patients and support community engagement.
Dr. Sara Saeed Khurram, CEO of Sehat Kahani, emphasized the project’s potential. She stated the goal is to open more digital centers so more families can benefit. The platform uses secure video, digital records, and e-prescriptions.
The government is proactively working to prevent illness, not just treat it. This telemedicine expansion is a key step in building a healthier, more resilient society for all.
