Haqeeqi Azadi March Cases Closed Against PTI Founder in Islamabad Court
An Islamabad court has closed two cases linked to the Haqeeqi Azadi March against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The decision brought relief to the PTI leadership. As a result, long-running legal proceedings finally came to an end.
The hearing took place at the Islamabad district courts. Judicial Magistrate Azhar Nadeem presided over the case. Meanwhile, advocate Sardar Muhammad Masroof represented the PTI founder.
Defence highlights delays and past acquittals
During the hearing, the defence strongly challenged the continuation of the cases. The lawyer told the court that the cases dated back to 2022. He added that courts had already acquitted several co-accused individuals.
In addition, the defence pointed out a major procedural delay. The lawyer explained that an acquittal application had remained pending for two years. Therefore, the delay raised concerns about fairness and due process.
The counsel also informed the court that authorities never produced the PTI founder during this period. He argued that the prolonged inaction weakened the case further. As a result, he requested immediate relief.
The defence urged the court to hear the acquittal plea. Alternatively, the lawyer asked the court to consign the cases to the record room. He stressed that continuing the proceedings served no legal purpose.
Court orders closure of proceedings
After hearing the arguments, the court accepted the defence request. The magistrate ordered the closure of both cases. Consequently, the legal proceedings officially ended.
The ruling closed a chapter related to the Haqeeqi Azadi March protests. It also highlighted concerns over delayed trials and unresolved applications.
Legal experts say the decision reinforces the importance of timely justice. Moreover, it may influence how similar protest-related cases proceed in the future.
