Basant City Comeback: Lahore Welcomes Kite Festival After 20 Years

After more than 20 years, the Basant city comeback brings joy back to Lahore. The colorful festival will run from February 6 to 8. As a result, residents can enjoy kites, culture, and shared celebrations again.
Authorities have approved kite sales under strict rules. Registered traders started selling kites and strings from Sunday. However, all sales will stop after February 8 under a complete ban.
Officials approved 2,246 traders for legal business. In addition, 2,504 people applied through the online system. Some requests remain under review, while others did not meet requirements.
To support the festival, the government announced free public transport. Therefore, people can travel without cost during the three days. Services include Metro Bus, Orange Line, Speedo, and electric buses.

Free Travel and Citywide Access

The Orange Line will serve about 270,000 passengers daily. Meanwhile, metro buses on the Shahdara to Gajumata route will help nearly 150,000 commuters. As a result, movement across the city will remain smooth.
Feeder and electric buses will also run free. Nearly 600,000 passengers may benefit each day. This step supports safe and inclusive participation.

Holidays, Safety, and Cultural Programs

The Punjab government announced holidays from February 4 to 8. The break includes Shab-e-Barat and Youm-e-Kashmir. Therefore, families can enjoy time together.
All schools, colleges, and offices will remain closed. Event teams are planning secure programs. These include music, performances, contests, and community gatherings.
Officials urge everyone to follow safety rules. Kite flying can bring risks in crowded areas. With care and planning, the Basant city comeback can stay joyful and safe for all.
