Afghanistan and England Reach U-19 World Cup Semis
Afghanistan and England secured spots in the U-19 World Cup Semis after commanding victories. Afghanistan crushed Ireland by 191 runs, while England beat New Zealand by 65 runs. These wins confirmed their places in the last four.
Australia had already qualified from Group 1. Afghanistan claimed the remaining semi-final berth, and England became the first team from Group 2 to advance. Therefore, the India-Pakistan clash on Sunday is now decisive. Only one team can proceed.
Afghanistan’s Dominant Display
Faisal Khan starred for Afghanistan with a record-breaking 163 off 142 balls. He struck 18 fours and a six, guiding Afghanistan to 315-7 in 50 overs. It is the highest individual score by an Afghan in tournament history.
Early trouble at 27-2 was handled by a 75-run partnership with Uzairullah Niazai. Later, Faisal and captain Mahboob Khan added 188 runs for the fourth wicket. Mahboob scored 89 off 79 balls. Ireland struggled in response and were bowled out for 124. Pacers Reuben Wilson and Olly Riley took three wickets each, while Aqil Khan claimed three late wickets.
England’s Strong Win
New Zealand had pride only after failing to reach the semis. England set a total of 234-7 at Bulawayo. Ben Dawkins scored 42, while Ben Mayes (53) and Caleb Faloner (47) ensured a strong innings.
Manny Lumsden starred with the ball, taking 5-17. Mason Clarke also contributed with 2-38. New Zealand managed just 169, with Senith Reddy (47) offering some resistance.
