China Mosquito Spy Drone Revealed as Tiny Military Surveillance Breakthrough

China has revealed a new mosquito spy drone built for covert military reconnaissance. Researchers developed it at the National University of Defence Technology. The tiny device signals a new direction in modern surveillance tools. The bionic microdrone measures about 2 centimeters. It weighs only 0.3 grams. Despite its size, it carries miniature sensors for intelligence gathering. Engineers designed its wings to flap nearly 500 times per second. As a result, the drone mimics the movement of a real insect. This makes detection far more difficult.

Micro Drones Signal Shift in Modern Warfare

The mosquito spy drone reportedly includes a four-winged version. Operators can control it through a smartphone. Therefore, teams can deploy it quickly in close-range missions. Its small frame helps it avoid conventional radar systems. In addition, its lightweight build allows it to move quietly through tight spaces. These features make it useful for discreet reconnaissance. Military experts say micro-UAVs reflect a broader shift in warfare strategy. Nations now invest in stealthy, close-range intelligence systems. For example, Norway’s Black Hornet drone already supports several armed forces, including the United States.
Unlike large unmanned aircraft, micro drones focus on precision and invisibility. They gather data without drawing attention. Consequently, they reshape how militaries approach surveillance operations. China’s mosquito spy drone highlights how rapidly defense technology is evolving. As innovation accelerates, smaller and smarter devices will likely play a larger role in global security strategies.
