Islamabad Imambargah Blast Dozens Killed and Injured During Friday Prayers

Islamabad Imambargah Blast struck the federal capital on Friday during prayers. The explosion killed at least 31 people and injured 169 others. As a result, panic spread quickly among worshippers.
Rescue workers rushed to the scene within minutes. Police sealed the area to stop further harm. Authorities shifted the wounded to nearby hospitals right away.

Rescue Efforts and Emergency Response

The blast happened at Imambargah Khadijah al-Kubra in Islamabad’s Tarlai area. Police spokesperson Taqi Jawad said investigators could not confirm the cause yet. However, early evidence pointed to a suicide bomber.
District officials acted quickly after the explosion. They assigned assistant commissioners to oversee treatment at hospitals. In addition, Rescue 1122 teams worked with police to support victims
Hospitals across Islamabad declared an emergency soon after. Pims, Polyclinic, and CDA Hospital activated burn, orthopedic, neurology, and trauma units. Therefore, doctors stayed on high alert to manage the crisis.
People at the site described heartbreaking scenes. Broken glass and debris covered the prayer hall. Many injured worshippers lay outside in the garden while others called for urgent help.

Condemnation and National Reactions

Pakistani leaders strongly condemned the attack. President Asif Ali Zardari expressed sorrow and offered condolences to grieving families. He also ordered hospitals to provide full medical support.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called the bombing a cowardly act of terrorism. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry also shared prayers for the injured.
Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas criticized security lapses in the capital. He urged young people to donate blood and help save lives.
Iran’s ambassador also condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with Pakistan. The incident occurred during the official visit of Uzbekistan’s president, raising further concern. This tragedy comes just months after another suicide blast in Islamabad’s G-11 area.
