Indus AI Week 2026 Opens in Islamabad to Boost Innovation

Islamabad welcomed the launch of Indus AI Week 2026, a major event focused on artificial intelligence. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the week-long initiative with great enthusiasm. The program aims to accelerate innovation and strengthen Pakistan’s digital future. As a result, the country continues to move closer to a technology-driven economy.

PM Highlights Youth and Digital Education

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government wants to prepare young people for modern challenges. He explained that Pakistan must equip students with advanced skills. Therefore, authorities have introduced laptop distribution programs and created e-libraries to support learning.
He also shared progress in upgrading digital education systems nationwide. In addition, he said these efforts will help students compete in the global technology market. The Prime Minister stressed that innovation remains a national priority.
Shehbaz Sharif pointed to major achievements, including Pakistan’s first Safe City project in Lahore. He also mentioned the establishment of the country’s first dedicated IT university. According to him, these steps show a unified commitment to modernization.

Reforms, Transparency, and AI Growth

The Prime Minister highlighted several governance reforms during his speech. For example, the government has adopted e-stamp papers and digitized land records. These measures have improved transparency and increased state revenues.
He noted that digitization has also reduced corruption in revenue departments. Moreover, the complete digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue has strengthened tax administration. Modern scanning technology at ports has also helped authorities curb smuggling.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s demographic strength as well. He said nearly 60 percent of the population consists of young people. Therefore, the country must invest in education and skills training to unlock their potential.
He expressed confidence that Pakistan can now compete internationally in artificial intelligence. Furthermore, he announced that AI-focused education has already started in schools across Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan. This move marks an important step toward building a future-ready economy powered by technology.
