Pakistan to Forge Islamabad into Cultural Tourism Capital

Islamabad is embarking on an ambitious transformation. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a major new initiative. The goal is to reimagine the city as Pakistan’s leading vibrant cultural and tourism capital.
The plan aims to preserve Islamabad’s cherished identity as a garden city. However, it seeks to go far beyond simple beautification. The focus is reshaping public spaces into a cohesive and dynamic urban experience.
The CDA is inviting proposals from top consultants. It seeks a nationally or internationally recognized Creative Consultant. This expert will act as a curator for the entire federal capital.

The Role of a City Curator

The selected consultant will have a broad and visionary mandate. They will integrate many elements into the city’s landscape. These include art, culture, sports, cuisine, heritage, and ecology.
This integration must align with international best practices. It must also respectfully reflect Pakistan’s own rich cultural heritage. The consultant will develop a comprehensive citywide tourism framework.
The vision includes distinctive public projects across Islamabad. Plans involve improving green corridors, civic plazas, and cultural trails. Sports zones, culinary districts, and other experience-based destinations are also key.

High Expectations for a Transformative Leader

The CDA has set a high bar for candidates. It seeks professionals with at least two decades of leadership experience. Relevant fields include creative direction, urban regeneration, and destination development.
Applicants must have a proven record of delivering impactful projects. These should be public realm or city-making initiatives at a national or international level. The right candidate will help reposition Islamabad as a major hub.
The authority has made proposal documents available. Participation is open to all eligible individual consultants who meet the strict criteria. The CDA retains the right to accept or reject any proposal per the rules.
This project marks a significant step. It signals a committed push to enhance Islamabad’s profile as a must-visit destination for both citizens and global travelers.
