Sindh University Inquiry Launched After Campus Official Suspension
Sindh University Inquiry began after the Sindh government suspended Professor Azhar Shah on Thursday. He served as in-charge of Sindh University’s Dadu campus. The action followed viral videos that raised serious concerns.
Government Orders Suspension and Probe
Minister for Universities and Boards, Ismail Rahoo, issued a formal letter to the Vice-Chancellor. He noted that online videos had harmed the institution’s reputation. Therefore, he ordered the professor’s immediate suspension.
Rahoo also instructed the university to start a formal inquiry without delay. Officials will investigate the facts and circumstances in detail. In addition, the process will follow the law and ensure fairness.
The minister directed the committee to complete the inquiry within 15 days. Moreover, the university must submit a full report with findings and recommendations. The matter will also go before the syndicate for further legal action.
Allegations Spark Campus Unrest
Faculty members and student representatives shared separate complaints about the videos. They claimed the clips came from different times, not one incident. However, the footage showed the official appearing unsteady during campus activities.
Complaints alleged that the professor often appeared intoxicated while attending classes. Some submissions also claimed he spoke incoherently and disrupted academic routines. Furthermore, they accused him of inappropriate conduct and harassment of students.
The situation escalated after teachers and students boycotted classes. As a result, Minister Rahoo stepped in to address the growing unrest. University officials later said they removed the campus official from his post rather than only suspending him.
A three-member committee will lead the Sindh University Inquiry. Dr Javed, dean of Business and Commerce, will head the panel. The committee will now review evidence and present its conclusions soon.
