Pakistan ADB Executive Director Shortlist Finalized with Three Top Candidates
The Pakistan ADB Director Shortlist has been finalized by the government. Officials confirmed that three senior officers are under consideration. The appointment relates to Pakistan’s Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). According to sources, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reviewed and shortlisted the names. Notably, two women officers are part of the final panel. This step reflects a transparent and competitive selection process.
Strong Candidates in the Running
Grade 22 officer Sarah Saeed leads the list. She currently serves as Special Secretary in the Establishment Division. In addition, she recently became one of the youngest officers in five decades to reach Grade 22. Sarah Saeed holds an MSc in Economics for Development from Oxford University. She is also a gold medalist from Punjab University. Therefore, many observers see her as a strong contender. Former Finance Secretary and current Health Secretary Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh is also on the panel. However, if he is not posted to Manila, officials may appoint him as Secretary Petroleum. This option remains under consideration. The third candidate is Grade 21 officer Nashita Mohsin. She serves as Special Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. Her experience in financial management adds weight to her candidacy.
Approval Process and Other Decisions
Authorities will soon send the summary to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final approval. The prime minister has already decided not to move certain senior officials. For example, Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal and FBR Chairman Rashid Langrial will continue in their current roles. Similarly, Interior Secretary Khurram Agha will remain in office due to important responsibilities. As a result, the focus now stays on the three shortlisted names.
Current Position and Rotation Policy
Pakistan’s current Executive Director at ADB, Noor Ahmed, completed his term last year. However, officials granted him an extension until the new appointment is finalized. The role rotates between Pakistan and the Philippines every two years. ADB appointments usually take effect from July 1 each year. Therefore, the government aims to complete the process soon. This development marks an important step for Pakistan’s representation at ADB. The final decision will shape the country’s engagement with the regional financial institution.
