Winter Olympics Skiing: Meillard Wins Gold as Swiss Men Dominate Slalom

Winter Olympics Skiing delivered more drama as Loic Meillard secured another gold for Switzerland. His win strengthened the nation’s grip on men’s alpine events. As a result, Swiss athletes have now claimed four of five available titles. The race in Bormio kept fans on edge. However, one costly mistake changed everything.

Meillard Seizes His Moment

Norway’s Atle Lie McGrath led after the first slalom run. He looked ready to shift momentum back to his team. However, he clipped a gate early in the second run and skied out.
Frustration showed as he tossed his poles and lay in the snow. That moment opened the door for Meillard. He attacked the course with confidence and control.
The Swiss star clocked 1 minute 53.61 seconds to seal gold. Austria’s Fabio Gstrein finished 0.35 seconds behind for silver. Meanwhile, Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen claimed bronze.
This victory adds to Switzerland’s growing medal haul. Franjo von Allmen already captured downhill and super-G titles. In addition, the Swiss team secured gold in the men’s combined event.
Meillard now owns a full medal set from these Games. He previously earned bronze in giant slalom and silver in team combined. Therefore, this gold marks a special milestone.
“I had to give it everything,” Meillard said. “When I saw green on the board, I felt pure joy.”

Sweden Shine in Curling

Elsewhere, Sweden continued their strong run in women’s curling. Anna Hasselborg’s team defeated Switzerland 6-4. As a result, they recorded a sixth straight win.
The victory keeps Sweden at the top of the standings. Momentum clearly sits with the defending champions as the competition heats up.
Winter Olympics Skiing has delivered thrilling action so far. With more events ahead, fans can expect even more unforgettable moments.
