Control Resonant Shows Gravity-Defying Gameplay
Remedy Entertainment shows new gameplay for its upcoming sequel during February’s State of Play presentation. Control Resonant gameplay reveals a melee-focused action game with gravity-switching exploration throughout. The sequel features Dylan Faden, brother of the original game’s protagonist Jesse Faden. The action takes place in a reshaped Manhattan with trippy, surreal environments that bend reality. The West Incursion Zone contains side activities, hidden encounters, and optional discoveries for players to find. However, the developers stop short of calling it an open world despite its scale. Players can walk on skyscraper walls before hopping off for exploration and combat. This mechanic draws immediate comparisons to the beloved Gravity Rush series from Japan.
A Melee Focus with Deep RPG Elements
The game shifts from shooter to melee action for this ambitious sequel. Dylan wields a shape-shifting melee weapon called the Aberrant throughout his journey. You can customize its abilities and talents as you progress further through the game. Health points and damage numbers remain visible for strategic planning during combat.
Some powerful abilities unlock as rewards for beating the toughest bosses. These bosses are the titular Resonants that players must face and overcome. Consequently, combat requires both skill and strategic customization throughout every encounter.
Self-Published with Major Industry Backing
Remedy self-publishes Control Resonant for the first time in company history. However, Annapurna Pictures co-produces and co-finances the project alongside them. The game launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms simultaneously. A specific release date remains unannounced for now, building anticipation. Fans of the original Control have much to anticipate in this sequel.
The gravity-switching exploration adds a fresh dimension to gameplay mechanics. Melee combat represents a significant shift from the original shooter focus. This sequel aims to expand the series in bold new directions creatively.
