Saudi Arabia Hosts First National Forum for Rural Tourism Award in Qassim

Saudi Arabia is turning its attention to rural tourism development. The first National Forum for the Rural Tourism Award concluded in Buraidah. The two-day event took place at the King Khalid Cultural Center in the Qassim region.
Some 40 government and nonprofit entities participated in the forum. The Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday that interest in rural tourism is growing rapidly. Specialists in tourism and rural development gathered to discuss best practices.
The forum focused on sustainable tourism and investment opportunities. Participants presented initiatives to support rural tourism programs. They also discussed empowering local communities and developing rural destinations.
The region’s natural and cultural assets were a central theme. Attendees highlighted attractions that can help support tourism growth. The goal is to turn these assets into sustainable economic opportunities.

Spotlight on the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve

The reserve’s development authority showcased several exciting projects. These focus on scenic areas within the reserve’s boundaries. The emphasis is on natural and environmental assets that attract visitors.
One standout project is the North Reserve for Sustainable Hunting. It is the Kingdom’s first specialized hunting reserve. Visitors can hunt houbara bustards, gazelles, and Arabian oryx under strictly regulated conditions. This balances conservation with controlled tourism.
Another feature is Linah Camp. It offers camping experiences under the stars. The camp operates as part of the Dark Sky program, protecting natural darkness for stargazing.

Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Building

The forum included a rich program of sessions and workshops. Scientific sessions explored the development of rural tourism. Discussions covered investment opportunities in rural projects.
National experiences were shared among participants. Topics included tourism sustainability and community empowerment. The rural award’s role in promoting innovative initiatives was also examined.
The award recognizes successful projects that can serve as models. It encourages communities to develop their own tourism potential. By highlighting winners, the program spreads best practices across the region.

A Growing Movement

This first forum signals a strategic shift in Saudi tourism. While cities like Riyadh and Jeddah attract international visitors, rural areas have untapped potential. Qassim’s natural beauty and cultural heritage are now being developed intentionally.
The involvement of 40 entities shows broad institutional support. Government agencies and nonprofits are aligning their efforts. This coordinated approach increases the chances of long-term success.
Rural tourism offers several benefits for the Kingdom. It creates jobs in areas outside major cities. It preserves cultural traditions and natural environments. It also diversifies the tourism product, giving visitors more reasons to explore Saudi Arabia.
The forum in Buraidah is just the beginning. With continued investment and community engagement, rural tourism in Qassim and beyond has a bright future.
