Zadran and Nabi Lead Afghanistan to T20 Win

Ibrahim Zadran scored an unbeaten 95 to guide Afghanistan to a big T20 World Cup win. The team defeated Canada by 82 runs on Thursday. This victory gave Afghanistan a positive finish to a tough tournament.

Zadran and Nabi Shine in T20 Win

Zadran hit seven fours and five sixes in 56 balls. Afghanistan posted a strong total of 200-4 after batting first in Chennai. In addition, Sediqullah Atal supported the innings with 44 runs. Their 95-run partnership lifted the team’s spirits. Afghanistan’s bowlers, led by veteran Mohammad Nabi, controlled the game. Nabi took career-best T20 figures of 4-7. As a result, Canada could only manage 118-8. This win marked Afghanistan’s second victory in the 20-team tournament.
Despite the strong finish, Afghanistan could not reach the Super Eights. New Zealand claimed the other qualification spot from Group D, which South Africa topped. “We were well prepared for this competition,” said captain Rashid Khan. “However, the loss to South Africa hurt our chances.”
This match was also memorable as it marked the last game for Jonathan Trott as Afghanistan’s coach. Trott had been in charge since July 2022. Canada, meanwhile, ended the tournament without a win in four matches.
Overall, Afghanistan ended the group stage on a high note. Fans can celebrate Zadran’s heroic innings and Nabi’s remarkable bowling performance.
