Punjab Fog Cannons Plan: Govt Approves Rs3bn Clean Air Project
The Punjab government has approved the Punjab fog cannons project to tackle rising smog levels. Authorities will install 30 modern fog cannons on electric trucks. The initiative will cost Rs3 billion and target major urban and industrial areas. Officials say the project forms part of a broader clean air strategy. The government aims to reduce dust and harmful particles. In addition, it plans to strengthen climate resilience across the province.
Major Investment Under Clean Air Plan
The government has allocated Rs2.25 billion under the Lahore Air Improvement Framework. Through this funding, it will launch an integrated clean-air program in the provincial capital. As a result, Lahore will see stronger pollution control measures.
These fog cannons will spray fine water mist into the air. This process helps settle dust and particulate matter. Therefore, authorities expect visible improvements in pollution hotspots. For the first time, Lahore will use a Super Station System. This system will identify pollution sources in real time. Moreover, the “One City, One Policy” initiative will bring modern air quality governance to the city.
Monitoring and Enforcement Strengthened
Punjab has already installed more than 50 modern air quality monitors. These devices track pollution levels across key districts. An automated quality assurance system also checks data accuracy and transparency. The government is activating a digital environmental monitoring system. This platform will help control industrial emissions more effectively. Consequently, regulators can respond quickly to violations.
Officials have also approved upgrades to environmental laboratories. They will install advanced testing equipment to improve research and enforcement. Together, these steps show a strong push for cleaner air.The Punjab government believes this strategy will protect public health. It also aims to create a safer environment for future generations.
