Saber Interactive Announces New AAA John Wick Game

Saber Interactive and Lionsgate announce a new AAA action game set in the John Wick universe during PlayStation’s State of Play. John Wick game announcement reveals an untold story within the franchise timeline, though no plot details were shared publicly. The gameplay footage showcases satisfying finisher animations and intense close-quarters combat throughout. However, many fans express deep disappointment that Sloclap, the studio behind Sifu, is not developing the title. Sifu’s intricate melee combat system seemed like the absolute perfect template for a John Wick adaptation. Modders have already created John Wick skins for Sifu, proving the concept works beautifully in practice. The franchise has remained criminally untapped in the video game space for over twelve years. Previous efforts include VR titles, tactical RPGs, and crossover skins in other games. Consequently, this announcement marks the first proper AAA single-player John Wick experience ever.

Fans Question Developer Choice for the Project

Sifu draws heavy inspiration from John Wick’s action sequences throughout its entire combat design philosophy. The Club level in particular mirrors the franchise’s signature style closely and effectively. Sloclap’s debut game Absolver also showcased impressive martial arts mechanics with depth. Their most recent title Rematch was an online soccer game, a departure from action genres.
Therefore, fans desperately hoped Sloclap would return to action with a John Wick license. The studio seemed like an obvious layup for this type of adaptation opportunity. Saber Interactive has experience with licensed properties like Hellraiser and Star Wars. However, they now face extremely high expectations from the passionate and vocal fanbase.

What Saber’s John Wick Game Must Deliver

The movies have built a reputation for spectacular set-piece action sequences over four installments. Therefore, the game must deliver similarly thrilling gameplay to satisfy demanding fans. Hand-to-hand combat and environmental interactions define the John Wick experience beautifully. Creative finisher animations and items hurled at foes must feel satisfying and impactful.
Saber must prove they can make the combat as electric as fans expect from this franchise. The game arrives at a time when John Wick movies have slowed down theatrically. This could be perfect timing or a significant challenge, depending on execution quality. The brief gameplay snippets shown emphasize satisfying finisher animations throughout the trailer.
