T20 Super Eights win: England crush Sri Lanka in dominant 51-run victory

England kicked off their campaign with a strong T20 Super Eights win over Sri Lanka in Kandy. They secured a 51-run victory and set the tone early. As a result, captain Harry Brook enjoyed a birthday to remember. England posted 146-9 after being sent in to bat. At first, the total looked modest on a slow pitch. However, the bowlers quickly turned the game around.

Bowlers Break Sri Lanka Early

Jofra Archer and Will Jacks struck hard in the powerplay. They shared five wickets in six overs. Therefore, Sri Lanka collapsed to 34-5 and never recovered. Archer removed both openers with sharp pace. For example, he dismissed Pathum Nissanka, who had scored heavily in previous matches. Jacks followed with three key wickets, including two in consecutive balls.
Dunith Wellalage survived the hat-trick ball. However, he lasted only 10 deliveries before Jacks dismissed him. In addition, England’s fielders supported every effort with sharp catches. Sri Lanka eventually folded for just 95. Consequently, England sealed a convincing result and boosted their net run rate.

Brook Celebrates in Style

Harry Brook praised the team’s all-round display. He highlighted the bowlers’ smart use of pace on a sticky surface. Moreover, he appreciated how the squad adapted after a rain-affected week. Will Jacks earned player of the match for his impact. He said the team felt satisfied at halfway but knew they needed discipline. That focus paid off in a big way.
This victory marks England’s 12th straight win over Sri Lanka. More importantly, it gives them momentum in a tight group. The T20 Super Eights win could prove vital as the tournament unfolds.
