Murad Ali Shah Sets Karachi Underpasses Deadline, Seeks One-Month Completion
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced a strict Karachi underpasses deadline of one month. He directed the mayor to complete the Karimabad and Munawar Chowrangi projects quickly. He also ordered officials to open both routes for traffic without further delay.
During a high-level meeting on Karachi’s 2025-26 development plan, he reviewed ongoing projects. Officials informed him that the Karimabad underpass has reached 85 percent completion. Meanwhile, the Munawar Chowrangi underpass has achieved 75 percent progress.
CM Pushes Speed and Accountability
Murad Ali Shah urged departments to accelerate construction work. He asked them to maintain high standards and reduce traffic disruption. Moreover, he warned that unnecessary delays would not be tolerated. The government allocated Rs38.83 billion for Karachi this financial year. Authorities have released Rs22.36 billion so far. However, departments have spent only Rs13.15 billion to date.
He expressed concern over the slow pace of newly approved schemes. Therefore, he directed agencies to improve coordination with district administrations and utility services. He emphasized that funds are available and approvals are complete. Now, he wants visible results for residents. Officials also briefed him on major road rehabilitation plans. These include grants for 24 town municipal corporations and 26 key roads. In addition, they shared updates on bridge and urban renewal projects across the city.
Sindh Bar Council Demands Governor’s Removal
Separately, the Sindh Bar Council passed a resolution against Governor Kamran Tessori. The council accused him of engaging in political activities at the Governor House. As a result, it urged President Asif Ali Zardari to remove him. The council stated that constitutional offices must remain neutral. Furthermore, several political leaders criticized recent speeches at the Governor House. They warned that divisive rhetoric could harm social harmony.
