Punjab Security Measures Tightened Amid National Security Concerns
Punjab security measures have been strengthened following growing national security concerns. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed authorities to enhance safety across the province. As a result, police and district administrations have moved into high alert mode.
At a high-level meeting, Inspector General Abdul Kareem reviewed the law and order situation. He ordered stricter arrangements after recent terrorism incidents linked to a neighbouring country. Furthermore, he instructed officers to stay vigilant and proactive.
Enhanced Protection Across Punjab
The IG stressed stronger protection for Chinese nationals, Sikh pilgrims, and foreign tourists. In addition, authorities increased security at mosques, imambargahs, shrines, markets, and sensitive installations.
Police also tightened monitoring at inter-provincial border checkpoints and key public sites. Officers deployed at these locations must remain alert at all times. Supervisors will now brief field staff regularly about the evolving threat environment.
Moreover, the government ordered strict enforcement of Section 144 restrictions. Officials took this step in response to recent drone-related terrorist activities. Therefore, law enforcement agencies will ensure full compliance without exception.
Intelligence Coordination and Public Safety
The IG directed the Counter Terrorism Department, Special Branch, and intelligence agencies to improve coordination. He emphasized quick implementation of all security protocols. As a result, agencies will share information more effectively. Authorities will also increase intelligence-based search, sweep, and combing operations. Police will verify travelers and hotel guests arriving from other cities. In addition, teams will closely monitor suspicious vehicles, rickshaws, and cargo at entry and exit points.
Special focus remains on women’s safety in bazaars and markets. Lady police personnel will patrol busy areas to create a secure environment for everyone. Senior police officials attended the meeting in person and via video link. Together, they reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability across Punjab.
