Ishaq Dar Calls for Diplomacy Amid Middle East Crisis Escalation

Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue during the ongoing Middle East crisis escalation. He warned that recent developments have destabilized an already fragile region. Speaking in Islamabad, he urged all parties to show restraint and avoid further confrontation.
He said the situation escalated rapidly despite ongoing negotiations. However, he stressed that diplomacy remains the only sustainable solution. According to initial reports, authorities have not confirmed any casualties so far.

Call for Restraint and International Law

Dar questioned how the crisis expanded so quickly to involve multiple states. He referred to reports that Saudi Arabia responded to Iran in self-defence. Nevertheless, he emphasized that all countries must respect sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to assess the situation. During that meeting, officials expressed concern over violations of diplomatic norms. Dar stated that targeting senior state leadership undermines international legal frameworks.
In addition, he reminded nations of their obligations under the UN Charter. He urged all sides to uphold international humanitarian law. Therefore, he called for disputes to be resolved through peaceful engagement rather than force.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Outreach

Dar also shared details of his February 28 conversation with Iran’s Abbas Araghchi. During the call, he conveyed Pakistan’s condemnation of the attacks and encouraged de-escalation. Although the Iranian side responded positively, tensions have not yet subsided.
Moreover, Dar contacted several counterparts around the world. He noted a shared consensus that diplomacy offers the only lasting path to stability. As a result, Pakistan continues to support dialogue at regional and global levels.
In conclusion, Dar highlighted the importance of international institutions. He said these mechanisms protect principles established after World War II. Ultimately, he urged the global community to act responsibly and safeguard peace through cooperation.
