Greek Court Upholds Golden Dawn Convictions for Neo-Nazi Leaders

An Athens appeal court has made a landmark ruling. It upheld the 2020 convictions of 42 Golden Dawn members. The neo-Nazi party’s leaders will remain convicted criminals.Founder Nikos Mihaloliakos lost his appeal. Six other leading officials also failed to overturn their convictions. They were found guilty of “belonging to and running a criminal organisation” disguised as a political party.

MPs and Members Convicted

Another 24 defendants also lost their appeals. This group included 11 former members of parliament. They were found guilty of joining the criminal organisation. Therefore, justice continues to hold them accountable.

Murder and Violence Convictions Stand

The court upheld convictions for specific violent crimes. These included the 2013 murder of activist Pavlos Fyssas. The left-wing musician was killed by Golden Dawn supporters. Convictions also stood for the sever beating of Egyptian fishermen in Athens.This Golden Dawn conviction’s upheld ruling sends a strong message. Neo-Nazi violence will not be tolerated. Greece’s democratic institutions continue to protect citizens from extremism.
