Morocco Football Delay Shocks Fans as Women’s Africa Cup Moves to July

The Morocco football delay has stunned teams across Africa. The Women’s Africa Cup finals were set to start soon.
However, the Confederation of African Football suddenly moved the event. Officials announced the change only 12 days before kickoff. CAF said “unforeseen circumstances” forced the decision. Therefore, organizers shifted the competition to late July. Originally, matches were scheduled from March 17 to April 3. Now, teams will compete from July 25 to August 16. Morocco was preparing to host another major continental event. In addition, many fans already planned travel and tickets. Recently, rumors about hosting changes caused anxiety. As a result, players and supporters waited for clear guidance from CAF.

Questions Grow Around Scheduling

The competition also acts as a qualifier for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Therefore, the new dates could affect team preparations. CAF explained that extra time will help ensure a successful event. However, the organization did not confirm any change of host nation.
Earlier this year, the group stage draw included 16 teams. Yet the full match schedule had not been released. Meanwhile, speculation increased after dramatic scenes in the 2025 men’s continental final in Rabat. Senegal won that match 1–0. Some leaders even hinted that another country might step in. For example, officials in South Africa briefly mentioned a possible takeover.
The latest shift raises concerns about support for the women’s game. In recent years, several major competitions have faced scheduling issues. For instance, the 2020 edition never happened because of the pandemic. In addition, the 2024 tournament moved due to Olympic scheduling conflicts. CAF has also moved other continental events at short notice. As a result, many supporters now hope the July dates remain fixed. Despite the disruption, preparations are continuing. Teams, fans, and organizers now look ahead to a smoother tournament this summer.
