Drone Attack on Azerbaijan Airport Disrupts Flights
Tensions in West Asia continue to deepen. On March 5, 2026, Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan region came under drone attack. The passenger terminal of Nakhchivan International Airport was hit. A school in Shakarabad village near the airport was also struck. Therefore, the airport immediately issued a travel advisory. Flight operations on both international and domestic routes are temporarily suspended.
Azerbaijan Airlines Flight Diverted
Azerbaijan Airlines Flight #J2263 was en route to the airport. It was diverted back to the capital, Baku, in time. Flightradar24 reported this safe diversion. Air travel in the Middle East remains widely disrupted. Over 23,000 flights have been canceled as the situation evolves.
Official Statement and Passenger Arrangements
Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport posted an update on Instagram. “Due to the current situation, flight operations on both domestic and international routes at Nakhchivan International Airport have been temporarily suspended,” the statement read. Authorities are promptly assessing the situation. They are coordinating closely with relevant officials.
Passengers traveling from Baku to Nakhchivan will use an alternative route. They will take Baku-Igdir flights first. Then they will continue via Igdir-Nakhchivan ground transport. Check-in for Baku-Igdir flights happens at Heydar Aliyev International Airport’s Terminal 2. Passengers should use the North Entrance. They must arrive on time with valid travel documents.
Safety Advisory for Locals and Tourists
Officials advise everyone to stay indoors. Travel toward the airport should be avoided completely. Rely only on official channels for updates and advisories.
