Online Classes Rumors Denied: Punjab Schools to Continue Regular Schedule
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has dismissed Punjab schools closure rumors, saying the government has no plan to shut schools or shift classes online. He confirmed that educational institutions across Punjab will continue operating according to the normal schedule.
The minister issued the clarification after speculation spread about possible energy-saving measures. These reports surfaced following rising global oil prices after the Iran–Israel conflict escalation 2026.
Minister Rejects Online Classes Speculation
In a post on X, Rana Sikandar Hayat said schools would remain open. He clearly stated that the government had not proposed suspending in-person learning. Therefore, students and parents should not worry about any immediate changes.
Later, while speaking to the media, the minister repeated the same message. He explained that many schools currently conduct assessments for students from Grade VIII to XII. Because of these exams, authorities want academic activities to continue without disruption. In addition, the provincial government believes regular classes help maintain stability in the education system. Officials also want students to complete their assessments smoothly during this important period.
Energy-Saving Plan Sparks Reports
However, recent reports suggested the federal government might introduce new energy-saving measures. According to sources, officials discussed a possible “national action plan” to reduce electricity use across several sectors. For example, the proposal could encourage online classes in educational institutions. It may also promote remote work in corporate offices and the IT sector. In addition, authorities might reduce office attendance to save energy.
Sources say the plan could begin in March 2026 if approved. Officials believe such steps could lower fuel consumption during the current global energy pressures. Similar measures appeared during the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools and businesses shifted to remote operations. However, Punjab’s education department has not adopted those steps at this stage. For now, the minister has reassured parents and students that schools across Punjab will continue regular in-person classes.
