Tottenham Relegation Fears Grow After Crystal Palace Comeback Win
Tottenham relegation fears intensified after a shocking 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace. The loss deepens their poor Premier League run. As a result, Spurs now sit dangerously close to the drop zone.
Dominic Solanke gave Tottenham an early boost. He scored in the 34th minute against the run of play. However, the match quickly turned after defender Micky van de Ven received a red card. Van de Ven fouled Ismaila Sarr inside the penalty area. Therefore, the referee awarded Palace a penalty. Sarr calmly converted the spot-kick and leveled the score.
Crystal Palace seized momentum before halftime. Adam Wharton set up Jorgen Strand Larsen, who finished neatly in stoppage time. Moments later, Sarr struck again after another precise Wharton assist.
Tottenham struggled with ten players after the break. The team fought hard but created few clear chances. In addition, the stadium atmosphere turned tense as fans began leaving early. The defeat marked Tottenham’s fifth straight league loss. Moreover, their winless run now stretches to eleven matches. This is their worst league streak in nearly fifty years.
Survival Fight Intensifies
Spurs have 29 points from 29 games. Consequently, they sit just one point above key rivals Nottingham Forest and West Ham. The battle to avoid 18th place now looks intense. Interim manager Igor Tudor still sees positives. He praised the team’s energy despite the setback. “After the red card, it became a different game,” Tudor explained. However, the pressure continues to mount. Tottenham have not won a league match since late December. Their home record also ranks among the worst in the division.
Relegation would carry huge financial consequences. Reports suggest the club could lose around £260 million. Therefore, survival has become Tottenham’s top priority this season. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace climb to 13th place with 38 points. Manager Oliver Glasner praised his players’ response after conceding first. As a result, Palace now look comfortably clear of danger.
