Final Trails Game Announced for 2031 Reveal, 2032 Release
Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo announces that the final Trails game will be revealed in 2031 and completed in 2032. Trails final game announcement coincides with Falcom’s 50th anniversary celebration that same year. The Trails franchise has released 13 mainline games since 2004’s Trails in the Sky. The series is part of the larger The Legend of Heroes franchise from developer Falcom. A Trails in the Sky remake project is also currently in development. The news comes from a Weekly Famitsu interview with Kondo recently. Fans immediately expressed skepticism about promises made years in advance.
Fan Reactions and Doubts
Reddit users cast doubt on Falcom’s ability to follow through on long-term plans. Benchjc2004 calls it an “I’ll believe it when I see it type thing.” They note that a lot can happen in six years of development. Liquied points out Falcom has trouble sticking to a plan historically.
Ending the Trails saga doesn’t mean the series disappears entirely. TomahawkSmells suggests wrapping up the story could benefit the franchise. Spin-offs containing supplemental world building could continue afterward. However, so many loose threads make a satisfying ending difficult.
What’s Coming Before the End
Several new Trails games are already confirmed before the finale arrives. Trails Beyond the Horizon 2 is currently in active development. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is also in the works for fans. A three-game arc following Beyond the Horizon 2 seems likely.
Nothing beyond Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter has official announcements yet. The constant pace of releases can be hard to keep up with. Older Japanese releases get translated and ported between new games. The finale news might actually come as a relief to some players. Whether the 2032 date will stick remains a lingering question.
