Norrie Indian Wells run sets up possible Alcaraz quarter-final clash

Norrie Indian Wells run sets up possible Alcaraz quarter-final clash

Cameron Norrie extended his strong Norrie Indian Wells run with a confident victory on Wednesday. The British star beat Australia’s Rinky Hijikata in straight sets. Norrie won 6-4, 6-2 in just one hour and 16 minutes. As a result, he advanced to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The 30-year-old left-hander controlled the match from the start. For example, he broke Hijikata’s serve in the opening game. That early break set the tone for the first set. Norrie stayed calm and consistent to secure the lead.
In the second set, he increased the pressure. He broke twice more and quickly pulled away on the scoreboard. Therefore, Hijikata struggled to find momentum.
Norrie also looked solid on serve. In fact, he faced only one break point during the entire match. This strong serving helped maintain his Norrie Indian Wells run without dropping a set.

Possible Alcaraz Quarter-Final Clash

The British player now moves into the last eight of the tournament. However, a major test could be waiting next. World number one Carlos Alcaraz is a potential quarter-final opponent. If the matchup happens, it will be one of the most anticipated clashes of the round.
Indian Wells has been a happy hunting ground for Norrie. This year marks his eighth appearance in the singles draw. He has now reached at least the quarter-final stage four times. In addition, he won the title here in 2021.
However, he exited at the quarter-final stage in the following two seasons. As a result, Norrie will aim to push deeper this time and extend his impressive Norrie Indian Wells run.
