Marrakech Ranch Resort: Where Farm Life Meets Rural Tourism
Just outside Marrakech, a unique retreat offers a slower pace of life. The Ranch Resort combines farm life with rural tourism. It sits surrounded by mountains and open fields. This project began as a private farm. Moroccan tech entrepreneur Hamza Aboulfeth founded it. His initial idea was simply to plant olive trees.
However, a lack of water changed those plans. Wells drilled on the land produced scarce water. Therefore, the straightforward agricultural project took a new direction. Aboulfeth jokes that if he had found water, the Ranch would not exist today. Instead, his love for animals shaped the property’s future.
From Private Farm to Rural Retreat
Friends and visitors began coming to see the place. They were drawn by its relaxed, rural atmosphere. The Ranch slowly evolved based on their curiosity. It first operated as a small educational farm. Later, a weekend restaurant was added for day visitors. Families from Marrakech would come to spend time outdoors. Children explored the farm while parents enjoyed meals.
Soon, visitors started asking to stay overnight. This request led to a first hospitality experiment in 2023. The team installed glamping domes instead of permanent buildings. This allowed them to test the idea with limited investment. The response was much stronger than expected. Reservations came from both Moroccans and international travelers.
Experiencing Life on the Ranch
Today, the property is a complete rural destination. It features gardens, restaurants, swimming pools, and an animal park. The setting, with mountain views and open fields, attracts many families. Children love interacting with the animals. Guests can also enjoy horseback rides or relax by the pool.
Food is a central part of the experience. The restaurant serves dishes made with ingredients from the farm. Chicken tagines use Fayoumi chickens raised on site. The Ranch also fattens its own cattle for red meat. Aboulfeth jokes they push “farm to table” to “farm to farm.”
Creating Opportunity and Preserving Nature
The project has created over 50 full-time jobs for nearby communities. Local craftsmen also helped build the infrastructure. Aboulfeth believes agritourism has huge potential in Morocco. He notes the country’s rural regions remain largely underdeveloped.
He argues that thoughtful projects can support local economies. They also offer travelers a more authentic experience. The Ranch’s growth has been organic, guided by visitor feedback. Expansion always aims to preserve the surrounding landscape. The goal is to highlight the rural environment, not transform it. This balance between tourism, agriculture, and nature defines the Ranch’s unique charm.
