Lloyds App Data Glitch: UK Bank Apologizes After Users See Strangers’ Transactions

The Lloyds app data glitch has raised serious concerns about digital banking security in the United Kingdom. Customers briefly saw transactions belonging to other account holders. Lloyds Banking Group confirmed the issue on March 12 and apologized to users. However, the bank said the problem lasted only a short time. Several customers using apps from Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland reported the error. As a result, some users could view the transaction history of complete strangers.

Bank Apologizes and Investigates the Issue

A spokesperson said the bank fixed the problem quickly. The company also started an investigation to identify the cause. “We’re sorry that some customers experienced an issue viewing transactions in the app,” the spokesperson said. According to the bank, the error appeared for a short period during the morning. Therefore, most users regained normal access soon after the fix. Despite the quick resolution, the incident sparked concern among customers. Many people rely heavily on mobile banking apps for daily transactions.

Growing Concerns About Digital Banking Security

The Lloyds app data glitch highlights the risks of growing digital banking services. Banks now depend heavily on technology to deliver services quickly. However, technical failures still occur from time to time. Even small glitches can raise major privacy concerns.
For example, the UK’s Treasury Committee recently reported several banking outages. The report showed widespread system disruptions across major banks. Nine of the country’s largest banks experienced more than 800 hours of unexpected outages. These outages occurred between January 2023 and February 2025.
As a result, millions of customers struggled to access their accounts during that period.

Lloyds Faces Repeated Technology Problems

This is not the first technical issue for Lloyds Banking Group. Earlier in 2025, the bank faced outages during busy payday periods. Those outages affected about 700,000 customers in January and February. Many users reported problems logging into their accounts. However, the latest Lloyds app data glitch created different concerns. Previous outages blocked account access. This time, the problem involved possible exposure of sensitive financial information. Therefore, the incident has renewed debate about banking app security. Customers expect strong safeguards when using digital financial services.
Banks continue to expand online platforms. Yet experts say stronger systems and monitoring will remain essential to protect user data.
