23 Killed in Suspected Suicide Bombings in Nigeria’s Maiduguri
At least 23 people have died in suspected suicide bombings. The attacks hit Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state. 108 others were injured in the coordinated assault.
A post office, a popular weekly market, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital were targeted. The attacks occurred within minutes of each other around 7:30 PM local time on Monday. Therefore, this Maiduguri suicide bombings attack targeted multiple crowded locations.
Ramadan Crowds Targeted
The sites are among the city’s busiest locations. Large crowds had gathered after breaking the day’s Ramadan fast. The attackers struck when people were most vulnerable.
Boko Haram Blamed
Nigeria’s military blamed militants from Boko Haram. The notorious group has carried out similar attacks in the past. The region remains under constant threat from insurgency.
This marks one of the worst recent attacks on the city. Casualties could rise as injured are treated. Security forces continue their investigations.
